A few more challenges

Two more cards to share from Virtual Stamp Night at SCS this weekend. This one was for the "Fancy Nancy" challenge, and as soon as I read the description, this stamp came to mind. It's from a Prima set that I purchased earlier this year, but had yet to actually use. I stamped it then traced it with stardust stickles (not that you can really tell from the photo!). I layered it with a bit of 7gypies paper, and then mounted it onto a card base that I'd lightly spritzed with pink taffy glimmer mist. The final touch was the sentiment (Stampington), and I think this would be a great "Thanks for your hospitality" card.



This card was for the purple challenge. I pulled out some retired SU Vintage Violet, as I wanted to make a card for a friend and all my other purples just seemed a bit too bright. I embossed the panel using the folder from the Friends Forever die/emb set. I just swiped it with white ink, then added the sentiment (Melissa Frances). Tie on some ribbon, glue it down, and all done... I honestly think this might be the quickest card I've ever made!

Another card for our MOPS childcare providers, and I used the cuttlebug embossing folders again, too. This time I started out with Elegant Eggplant cardstock, embossed it with the "Textile" folder, and then went over it with my Brilliance Galaxy Gold pad. I sometimes wish that the color was a truer gold, but the soft brassy tone was just perfect for this project. Next I pulled out my Happy Harmony stamp set (SAB freebie). I inked the flowers with the Elegant Eggplant, but stamped off twice before the final impression. I added the verse - one I needed to be reminded of this evening - in Basic Black, then punched it out with my mega scalloped circle punch. I layered a bit of narrow cream organdy ribbon before layering it with basic black and then finally onto the Ivory Naturals cardstock. Another simple creation - but definitely elegant.

One of my downline came over last evening and we had a ball just playing around. I needed to make some more cards for those wonderful ladies who provide childcare during our MOPS meetings, and since it was the first day of spring, I felt the need for some bright, happy colors. After much goofing off, this is what emerged: I first stamped the card base with the Linen background, then ran it through the Big Shot with the "Stylized Flowers" cuttlebug embossing folder. I considered highlighting the design by rubbing some additional ink over it, but ended up keeping it simple. I stamped the flower from Easy Elegance once, then again without reinking, layered with a simple mat, then added the sentiment. Simple, but very pretty!

Candy Wrapper Card

OK, I actually was able to finish up that card that I hinted at yesterday. This month, I was responsible for the challenge at Eureka, and I thought it would be fun to see what we could make using candy wrappers, packaging, etc. Here's my spin on it, using the silver foil from a king size Hershey bar (the standard ones don't have the foil anymore, so the kids and I suffered through the extra chocolate). First, I smoothed the foil out and then glued it down to some plain, lightweight copy paper using Tombow's Mono Multi glue (my adhesive of choice for nearly everything). I then trimmed it down and ran it through my Big Shot with the Cuttlebug embossing folder. Next, I went over it with white acrylic paint, but then buffed most of it off before it actually dried. I really like the effect, sort of like an old fashioned tin tile. I needed to make a baby card for a friend, so I finished it off with some rick rack and a vellum tag (stamped with SU Big Pieces, and then the words are spelled out with an alphabet from Technique Tuesday - I was really ticked that I managed to smear the words just a bit with the side of my hand, but unfortunately I don't have any more of these large tags, so although imperfect, it stays). I may just have to watch for a good sale on candy bars so I can play around with this some more!

I played around with my scraps and a few Stazon pads - I think I like the debossed version with the Timber Brown pad the best, but unfortunately that's my smallest piece!
